Sunday 16th and Monday 17th February
The very scenic mountain road from Munnar to Thekkady is very narrow and windy but far less busy.
Kerala is 50% Christian and there are churches everywhere. Being Sunday people were out and about attending church. Towns are smaller and far less touristy than in the Munnar area. We stayed at the Elephant Court Hotel in Thekkady. We attended a traditional Keralan Kathakali dance show. Touristy traditional cultural music and dance experiences are not our thing but this was only an hour long!

On Monday morning we did a riverboat safari in Periyar NP. Everything is just so Indian..tickets,rules,officials,checks, bus transfer, non- queuing, crowding, noise,selfies...I was homesick for my beloved African bush. Anyone whose taken a private boat safari on the Chobe River in Botswana; know how privileged you are.
It was another great drive from Thekkady to Kumarakom. From the highlands to the backwaters in a few hours. We stopped for a bit of Sari shopping. At the Whispering Palms Hotel on Lake Vembanad we had time to relax in our villa. We are loving Keralan cuisine; trying everything on the buffet. Less keen on only having lime soda or tea to drink though.
