Friday 14th and Saturday 15th February
It's a 4 hour drive up to Munnar in the highlands of Kerala. We are staying at a hotel called The Fog. It's crazy how developed the whole area has become since we were last here in 2007. And it's busy with thousands and thousands of tourists, 99.99% local .Hotels, tea shops, spice shops, ayuvedic centres, restaurants, jeep trips, wildlife experiences, pedal boats, fun fairs, even a few static hot air balloons. And traffic, especially on the weekend. This is a big tea growing area and we have enjoyed being driven around; it's beautiful.
We visited a tea plantation and a spice centre. At Madupatty, we enjoyed the social spectacle of the holidaying crowds much more than seeing the dam. Getting out into nature is different when you live in a country with a population of 1.4 billion+.
The only English channels on our TV are BBC, CNN and "Romedy" with nonstop romcoms and family dramas. That's a good date for Valentine's Day; room service and a few cheesy love stories..no bubbles though, it's a dry hotel!
