Amazing Family Safari in Botswana August 2022 : part 4 : O Bona Moremi, Khwai River, Okavango Delta

Day 8 to10, Wednesday 24th to Friday 26th August

We drove via Maun with a chance to stock up on drinks and snacks. About 10kms outside Maun the tar road ends and the fun begins. This road is bad, even with a 4x4. Four bone rattling hours to do 150 kilometres. But really worth it for such a special piece of African wilderness.
O Bona is a small tented camp in the Khwai Conservancy and the wonderful, friendly staff really make this place special. The first afternoon we did an organised game drive.

The water levels in the delta are pretty high so we did have to do some water crossings.

We found a female lion and her 3 little cubs. She was taking them across the water for the first time.

5.30am wake up calls, 6am breakfasts and
6.30am sunrise game drives are how the day starts at O Bona.

After more lion sightings we headed over to the western area in search of leopard but after lots of tracking they remained elusive.

In the afternoon the London Greenfields went off for a mokoro trip and we did a self drive in the conservancy.

On Friday, Nick and Kerry left early for the long drive down south and we spent the day in Moremi NP. The area around North Gate was really beautiful with lots of water in the delta.

In the afternoon we were lucky enough to see a wild dog kill.
Charles and I were happy to discover that they didn't charge corkage at the lodge. The manager was really confused by our request to pay to drink our own wine. How we laughed when we were settling our bill and realised that our all- inclusive rate included all drinks anyway.
Look out for SADC special rates.
