Without full camping kit the drive through Savuti from Chobe to Khwai is not plausible.
Driving around via Mkgadigadi NP takes no longer and you get to experience another fantastic park. You enter the park off the A3. 
The zebra migration along the Boteti River is just fantastic. 
The area is teeming with game in August. 
You have to cross the river from the Kumaga Gate to get to Boteti River Camp. ( www.bushways.com ) 
They have nice, simple bungalows with outdoor bathrooms with dinner and breakfast included.
