INDIA 2025 : THE MAHARAJAS' EXPRESS AND TAJ MAHAL

Sunday 8 February
We boarded the luxury Maharajas Express in Delhi with a bit of Indian pomp and ceremony ie. marigolds and a red carpet.
The cabin is pretty nice and bigger than expected and the picture window has one way glass. It's strange to be in bed looking out on a busy station platform opposite.
High-end Indian hospitality is a bit over fussy for our taste but all the staff are professional, gracious, friendly and very attentive. After breakfast we settled into the cabin. A few hours later after the welcome briefing and lunch the train arrived in Agra and at 3pm we all got on a bus to the Taj Mahal. Being Sunday it was really crowded. Our guide guessed at 10 000 visitors but he said that on very busy days there can be up to 80 000 visitors. Despite this it is truly an awe inspiring building. Sunset is a great time to visit; the white marble bathed in golden light. Back on board the train we loved the  dinner and enjoyed the local wines and whiskys. It's fun meeting the other guests and finding out the stories that brought all of us together on the train.
