Botswana Camping Trip 2022 - Part 4 - South Gate Camp- Moremi, Okavango Delta

Monday 26 to Wednesday 28 September

Day 10 to 12

After shopping in Maun we were back on that road up to Moremi again. Slowly.
We were lucky enough to get a big, shady site at South Gate Camp.

Neil managed to park our caravan so close to the bin, it ended up in the shade of our awning.

We had a great braai and a lekker kuier around the fire and as soon as the last camp light went off we heard an almighty commotion in the bin. A honey badger ran under our caravan and climbed into the bin to scavenge, landing on empty bottles and plastic containers that rattled and clanged in the bin like a drum solo. He found a lamb chop bone and scurried under our caravan to munch on it. Lights and torches on in camp.Silence.Lights off and another commotion. Second lamb chop bone retrieved. Repeat. It's not safe to go out to secure the bin because badgers are extremely aggressive so we just had to lie in bed and endure the noise until all the bones had been eaten one by one.
Needless to say the bin lid was fixed the next morning.
The Black Pools area is so beautiful but it's easy to get lost even with the "Tracks for Africa" GPS.

On Wednesday we drove up to Xakanaxa for a boat trip on the Okavango. This area is beautiful for birding as well as game watching and we loved seeing so many Pygmy Geese.
