Moz and Malawi 2023 : Part 2 : Santa Maria

 Day 3: Saturday 17 June
The Kosi Bay border post was really quiet and we made it through without any hassles and very cursory customs checks.
By 11.30am we were driving the sandy tracks through The Maputo Special Reserve. It's a beautiful park joint-managed by Peaceparks and home to 350 elephants.
Lunch stop at the lake. And then the fun began. 20km per hour is the normal travel speed here.Vehicle - not our Landcruiser - stuck in the sand and needing to be towed out, not 2,3,4 or 5 but 6 times.

Finally we arrived at Nhonguane Lodge in Santa Maria at 8pm! Nothing that snacks, dinner and wine can't fix. This place is paradise!
 Day 4: Sunday 18 June
Today was a chill out day at House 1 at Nhonguane Lodge, right on the beach. Santa Maria is a small "village" on the Maputo Bay at the top of the Machangulo Penninsula opposite Inchaca Island. Winter temperatures are lovely here- a maximum of 25 and a minimum of 18°C. A true hidden gem. Lunch and bubbly, a swim and sunset drinks on the Bemugi Deck with a round of obligatory RnRs. ( The classic Moz beach resort drink of Tipo Tinto Rum and Sparletta Rasberry.)
It was Father's Day and Andrew's birthday, so we had dinner at Bemugi's Restaurant; seafood or peri- peri chicken with your feet in the sand. And plenty of Portugese Vihno Verde.
Day 5 : Monday 19 June
Another awesome chill day in this African paradise. In the afternoon we took a dhow trip to Inhaca Island for snorkelling.
Santa Maria is just awesome.

Moz and Malawi 2023 : Part 1: Kosi Bay

Day 1 : Thursday 15th June
Maizefield Farm to Utshwayelo Kosi Mouth Lodge.
And finally we are off on our mega safari trip.
We spent all day Wednesday packing the car and caravan at the farm.
At 7.01 Thursday we hit the road. All day travelling with just a few quick stops and we arrived at Utshwayelo after dark. Our group met up in the campsite.
Gail and Neil
Hanlie and Andrew
Rina and Rupert
Deirdre and Sean
Dinner and drinks before falling into bed.
Day 2: Friday 16 June
Kosi Bay
AM: Off to Kosi Bay Mouth. How disappointed we were to find they have gravelled and paved most of the road down to the beach since our last visit.  It's still an awesome beach to explore though. Rupert and I went snorkelling but sadly the little coral reef has been destroyed; most likely by a storm.
PM: In the afternoon we did a boat trip on the lakes. It was quite windy so we didn't find any hippos but we did enjoy the birding and the bubbly.
We are back in our camping routine of taking turns to make meals and tonight Neil and I did a braai.

Roadtripping Iceland Day 5 and 6

Friday 2 and Saturday 3 June
We visited Strokkur Geyser and Gullfoss Waterfall both more overrun by tourists than any other places we'd been in Iceland.
We spent the afternoon at Secret Lagoon Hot Springs near Fludir before heading into Reykjavik. Our apartment was in the centre of town, a short walk from all the bars and restaurants. We had cocktails and chicken wings at Lebowskis Bar, a fun place themed after the movie. Dillon Whisky Bar had a live blues band.
On Saturday we did a boat trip to see the puffins. Finally, plenty of puffins! Early night and early Sunday flight back to London.
