Moz and Malawi 2023 : Part 2 : Santa Maria

 Day 3: Saturday 17 June
The Kosi Bay border post was really quiet and we made it through without any hassles and very cursory customs checks.
By 11.30am we were driving the sandy tracks through The Maputo Special Reserve. It's a beautiful park joint-managed by Peaceparks and home to 350 elephants.
Lunch stop at the lake. And then the fun began. 20km per hour is the normal travel speed here.Vehicle - not our Landcruiser - stuck in the sand and needing to be towed out, not 2,3,4 or 5 but 6 times.

Finally we arrived at Nhonguane Lodge in Santa Maria at 8pm! Nothing that snacks, dinner and wine can't fix. This place is paradise!
 Day 4: Sunday 18 June
Today was a chill out day at House 1 at Nhonguane Lodge, right on the beach. Santa Maria is a small "village" on the Maputo Bay at the top of the Machangulo Penninsula opposite Inchaca Island. Winter temperatures are lovely here- a maximum of 25 and a minimum of 18°C. A true hidden gem. Lunch and bubbly, a swim and sunset drinks on the Bemugi Deck with a round of obligatory RnRs. ( The classic Moz beach resort drink of Tipo Tinto Rum and Sparletta Rasberry.)
It was Father's Day and Andrew's birthday, so we had dinner at Bemugi's Restaurant; seafood or peri- peri chicken with your feet in the sand. And plenty of Portugese Vihno Verde.
Day 5 : Monday 19 June
Another awesome chill day in this African paradise. In the afternoon we took a dhow trip to Inhaca Island for snorkelling.
Santa Maria is just awesome.
