SOUTH AMERICA 2024 : CHILLING IN APALTA AND HEADING HOME

Monday 26 February
We drove a coastal route south from Valparaiso through many local beach resorts and towns.  We headed back to Santa Cruz and to the Apalta Valley wine area.  Apalta Lofts has lovely modern bungalows among the vines with views across the valley and a jacuzzi on the deck.  We brought our own snacks and wine for the evening. A good way to relax at the end of a long trip.
Tuesday 27 February
We had lunch at Fuego de Apalta restaurant at Montes winery. For those who have watched the Netflix show, Chef's Table, you'll know the Argentian chef, Francis Mallman as the king of cooking on fire. This is one of his restaurants. We had a wonderful meal paired with a variery of Montes' best wines.
And another lazy evening back at the lofts.
Wednesday 28 February
A late start and a visit to Vina Casa Silva to buy a few bottles of carmenere to bring back to South Africa. We spent our final night at an airport hotel with room service, drinking our last pisco sours in bed!
Thursday 29 February
A leap year! A travel day! Santiago to Sao Paolo to Johannesburg. Happily home minus my bag which never ever made it home, including the Casa Silva carmenere!
