Moz Malawi 2023: Part 10 : Day 26 to 28 - Zomba, Tete, Chimoio

Monday 10 July to Wednesday 12 July
Zomba- Monday
The drive from the Lake via Mangochi to the town of Zomba is slow because it's busy but the road condition is fine. From town we drove up the mountain to the Zomba Forest Lodge owned by awesome hosts Petal and Tom. This little lodge is a wonderful off the grid retreat set in a few hectares of indigenous forest. Best birdwatching spot on the plateau. Petal is a great chef and we arrived in time for lunch in the garden.I spent the afternoon on the verandah catching up on my posts. We sampled Petal's homemade fruit gins at sunset. After a cozy fireside dinner we all had an early night.
Tete- Tuesday
After breakfast we were back on the road through Blantyre and to the Mwanza border. Both sides done within an hour including waiting for "visas" for the UK passport holders.
We had a great braai at Kukutana Campsite in Tete; a wonderful overnight stop.
Chimoio - Wednesday
Due to the very bad roads in Moz we decided to take an extra day to get to Gorongoza so we added another night at Linda's Lodge in Chimoio.
Arriving before 3pm meant we could have a bit of a rest and enjoy a delicious curry dinner and a few bottles of wine.
On our travel days we take turns making "padkos" for everyone. There are no fast food restaurants. There can be diesel shortages at times so it's worth filling up in larger towns when fuel is available. Malawi and Mozambique are among the poorest counties in the world. Rural life is tough. Roads are bad. We have come across very few travellers and overlanders. We are on a really crazy adventure!
