2. Tailor make your trip with them but don't do less than 12 nights if at all possible. For an ideal itinerary, use ours! Only thing I'd change is a bit of an upgrade on the Cairo and Giza hotels. Vivienne will tell you to skip the train. Neil will tell you to do it for sure.( Our flight back to Cairo from Luxor was lousy anyway and delayed by hours!)
3. Don't try and do it yourself. All the hassle and you'll end up forking out more, believe me. And you'll be harassed a lot more by touts, sellers and so called "guides."
4. You can't self drive. Traffic is mad.
5. Bring lots of USD and especially 1 dollar bills for tips. The Egyptian pound is weak at the moment so it's a very affordable place to travel right now.
6. Follow Djed's tipping guidelines for drivers and guides, they really are worth every cent.
7. Leave the Egyptian Museum to the last day. You'll be surprised how much Egyptology you'll learn on your trip and things will fall into place when you see them in the museum.
8. Try the food, go local, explore the non-touristy parts whenever you can. Lots of things are going to feel very touristy and you will appreciate the more authentic moments when you get them.
9. Cruise the Nile by Dahabiya NOT a bigger boat.
10. Come in the Winter months.
