10 to 12 May
Note to self : always book campsite 6.
When the river level is high as it is at the moment, many of the other sites are underwater or very muddy.
We were set up and totally at home in no time at all.
Sunset drinks on the deck of the lodge followed by a lekker braai. We had a hippo in our camp and we could hear lions roaring on the other side of the river all night.
On Sunday we spent the day in the Mahango section of Bwabwata NP. We decided on a lie in so just missed five lions at the water. We loved the letchwe, warthog, elephant and kudu though. Such a beautiful area.
We jaffled again; clearly our favourite brunch! Afternoon rest in camp and back to Mahango for sunset drinks and a herd of buffalo over the river.
On Sunday Neil and I did a bird walk in the morning. Christoph is THE local bird expert. After walking nearby the lodge, we drove to Buffalo Core to see the nesting Pel's fishing owl.
Anyone who knows about South African bush war history, will be familiar with 3-2 Battalion. The ruined barracks buildings are being upgraded into a campsite at the moment.
