Our day started early with another game drive in Gir. This time we didn't see any lions and we tracked a leopard without a sighting.
In this area there is a population of people with African heritage; desendants of slaves from Zanzibar.
Roadtrips are so interesting. Agriculture is a big part of the Gugarati economy. Crops like wheat, maize, chickpeas, chillies, coriander, mangoes, bananas and lots more. And cotton. India is the biggest producer and exporter in the world. We stopped at a marsala producer and a diamond polishing works. Here is a pigeon house and stalls selling bird houses.
We spent the night in Bhavnagar and saw sunset at a hilltop temple.
Neil and I sat alone in the lounge of the Nilambag Palace Hotel, drinking lime and soda (Gujarat is a dry state) with the smell of mosquito coils burning under the table and with classical Indian music playing in the background. We like to stay at heritage, local or boutique hotels and this place is definately authentic. Nothing has been updated for at least 60 years although they do have aircon and wifi in the room. Dinner was awesome; the best Malai Kofta I've ever eaten.
