EUROPE 2024 : CARCASSONNE AND THE CAMARGUE

Tuesday 11 to Thursday 13 June
Carcassonne is another favourite city with a campsite within walking distance of town. We were here last September on the RWC trip.
On Tuesday we spent time in the old walled city, one of the best preserved hilltop fortress towns in Europe.
We went back to Le Creneau for a dinner of Cassoulet; a stew of duck, sausage and beans and a speciality of the area.
On Wednesday we walked into the "new" part of town and up to the Canal du Midi. Neil and I whiled away an afternoon sitting in the main square, Place Carnot, enjoying wine, crepes and coffee. On Thursday we drove to Marseillan, a lovely village on the Etang(Estuary) du Thau. We met Verne and Roy for lunch. How great to catch up after so long.
We took the coastal road for a bit of reminiscing of all the trips we've done in the Camargue in Homer over the years. Sete, Palavas, Aigues Mortes. So many flamingos and some wild horses too.
We are overnighting in the very untouristy St.Gilles.
Drinks at the local Tabac and dinner at canalside La Restanque. It's still too chilly to sit outside at night though. Very strange weather for June in the South of France.
