Midmas Weekend at Maizefield Farm- Friday 28 to Sunday 30 July 2023

A nostalgic weekend, an epic party, freezing cold weather and the best Christmas fare we've ever had for "Midmas at Maizefield." I guess we are all getting more gourmet in our old age and our taste in wine and whisky is definitely more fancy. The present-game is still as crazy and hilarious as ever though. I love sharing these weekends at Maizefield with such awesome peeps and we did toast those who were unable to make it this year.

Moz Malawi 2023 : Part 13 : Day 37 to 40 : Chidenguela and homebound

Friday July 21
Early start as always but the EN1 South of Vilankoulos is much better. Roads were fairly quiet and we got to Sunset Beach Resort in Chidenguela by 3pm. The weather was iffy; too cold to sit out on the deck for drinks so Team Prado did dinner in their cottage.
Saturday July 22
Weather turned fine so we enjoyed our last camping brunch of the trip outside along with Bloody Marys and Expresso Martinis.
More drinks on the deck, walks on the beach and our last dinner all together; feeling nostalgic and sad is all coming to an end. Thanks Deirdre for the  lovely birthday memento.
Sunday July 23
Another early start and we had the road to ourselves on a quiet Sunday morning.
On the outskirts of Maputo we parted ways with Deirdre and Sean who were heading back to Durban via Kosi Bay.
The border crossing at Lebombo went very quickly on the Moz side and not too badly on the SA side when we learnt we could play the Pensioner card (my Big Birthday is coming up after all!) to skip the line. Neil, Gillian and I that is, but Rina was told..."She can queue!"
We met Johan at Marloth Safari Park.
He cooked us an awesome braai. I went with Rina for a quick 2 hour drive in Kruger.
Exhaustion kicked in early and I was lights out before 9pm.
Monday July 24
It was hard to get going this morning. After a few coffees and a Steers ( Yes! We are back in SA where you do find chain restaurants!) we were back on the road.
One more day in the car and it's all over. What an epic trip that was!

Countdown to 60..Bubbly Party No.53..

Wednesday 19 July..Bazaruto Island, Mozambique

Moz Malawi 2023 : Part 12 : Day 32 to 36 : Vilankulos : 16 to 20 July

Sunday 16 July
From Gorongosa NP to Buffalo Camp north of Save the unavoidable and horrendous EN1 had to be faced! The most direct route on the EN1 is 268kms. The long detour via Sussundenga on the N260 is 418kms but all advice was that this route would be quicker.
Even so it took us 11 hours but it was good to arrive before dark and enjoy the evening by the campfire. Rina even got to stream the Wimbledon Final for us.
Monday 17th July
After a good cooked breakfast we were back on the dreaded EN1. After the Save Bridge the road condition improves and its an easy few hours drive into Vilankulos.
Vilas do Indico is a small resort 10kms out of town. It's a little piece of paradise.
Tuesday 18th
Time to chill.
Wednesday 19th
We did a full day boat trip with Steve out to 2 mile reef for the best snorkelling you'll ever do.  More variety of fish species than you could ever identify. We stopped on Bazaruto Island to picnic, walk and swim. Neil made us Pina Coladas for sundowners.
It was Ali's last night so we ate in the restaurant. She nearly got away with not having an R and R!
Thursday 20th
Rina went diving, Ali had a plane to catch and Team Prado went exploring in Vilankulos. Guess where Neil and I hung out again?
Rina made delicious Keema for dinner. With rain forecast overnight, we packed most of our stuff up for an early start in the morning.
