Sunday 4 May
Out early again for a drive north to Andoni Plains; we are discovering parts of Etosha we've never seen before.
Back to camp for brunch and an afternoon doze. At 4pm, just as we left the camp heading South, we saw a lot of cars in the distance so we decided to see what was up. A lioness hunting young zebra, stalking and then dashing closer trying to isolate a mother and baby from the rest of the herd.Followed of course by about 10 cars! We made the right call to take the pan road and we saw her bring her prey down quite close to us. We could see her panting, having to bring her heart rate down before she could start eating. During all this commotion, Neil spotted a black rhino in the distance - good binoculars pay off sometimes! We judged the Rhino was heading to nearby waterhole so we waited there for 10 minutes and we were the only cars around when he appeared in the clearing and came down to drink!
Hardly back at Little Namutoni Waterhole for sunset GnTs and a hyena came to drink.I spotted her headed into a thicket so we went over and discovered the den with various mothers and lots of youngsters.
What a day!

Monday 5th May
Lions, hyenas and jackals called all night around camp. Next day on our drive we didn't find the lions but we saw many jackal and later a hyena with blood all over it's face.Nearby a zebra has just given birth; her hind legs and belly covered in blood. The hyena had snatched the calf! We got a photo of the hyena but in the excitement forgot to snap a pic of the zebra.
